Following is helpful information about shoplifting and theft. THERE IS TREATMENT - CALL US.
There are multiple causes and reasons why people shoplift. Shoplifting for most individuals is rarely about greed or poverty. It’s about struggling with personal conflicts and needs and is many times related to depression with feelings of shame and remorse. A more intense form of repeated shoplifting includes a lack of impulse control and distorted thinking and ideas. The shoplifter may experience a "high" when they steal. Many times the items stolen are not needed. Theft is a serious behavior and is most often a planned offense. Theft is used to illegally obtain money for various purposes or obtain desired objects. In most cases of shoplifting and theft, the offender does not recognize that their actions have consequences on people's feelings and may cause hardship to the victims and society. The thief may believe they are entitled to, or deserve the items they steal. They may see the theft as a form of revenge.
